Nakomate - Material Testing of Nanocomposite Structures

Between Nordic R&D performers and industries

The Nakomate project mobilizes research efforts in northern communities of Sweden and Finland for exploring the potential of polymer based nanocomposites.

Nakomate’s R&D work focuses on evaluating and non-destructive/destructive material testing of polymer based nanocomposite structures. For industries it means more accessible services in the fields of testing and simulation as well as better knowledge of nanocomposites and their properties.

These skills create a good basis for competitive advantage in international markets. Nakomate also provides the
possibility to produce spin-off product ideas for supporting industries like electronics and measurement industry
sectors as new needs arise from the development work.

Reducing the weight of composite structures will lead to economic benefits through:

  • Savings in used materials; Reduction of fuel consumption during transportation of composite products; More fuel-efficient end products (transport applications)
  • Finding new markets and applications
  • Appraising new materials
  • Identifying materials with attributes for harsh environments

Nakomate is a joint project of Micropolis Oy, Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences / Technology, Technology
Centre Ketek Oy, Tampere University of Technology, Luleå University of Technology and Swerea SICOMP AB.

Nakomate is supported by European Regional Development Fund (Interreg IVA Nord)
